Young
Kicks Competition In Philadelphia
15-year-old black belt Tressa
Young continues the 2010 tournament
season reaping positive results.
The black belt
from RMA Karate Centres
attended the Amerikick Internationals
karate tournament in Philadelphia this
past weekend.
The event sanctioned by the
North America Sport Karate Association
(NASKA) attracted competitors from across
the continent and
Europe. Amerkick Internationals
brought together black belts who have
proven themselves to be the
cream of the crop.
Young, relatively new to the NASKA
circuit, found she would have to prove
herself worthy of
competing among these elite
martial artists and she did not
disappoint.
Youngs divisions
started on the Friday night where she
competed in the musical and extreme
events. A slow start to
the weekend tournament Young
finished the Friday night events placing
fifth in the musical weapons division and
sixth in
the extreme forms
division.
Putting the disappointment of
Fridays results behind her and full
of determination to show her skill, Young
competed in the
traditional divisions on
Saturday giving her fellow competitors a
reason to worry.
Young shook up the
divisions regular NASKA competitors
leaving them and the spectators reason to
watch the Canadian
girl find her place.
She finished Saturdays events
placing second in traditional weapons and
second in the traditional forms
division.
I am happy with my results from
Saturday but I still want that first
place division, Young stated.
There are a lot of really
good competitors in the NASKA
circuit, especially the musical and
extreme divisions. Im going
to be working my butt off
to make sure I improve not
only with my skill but also with where I
place at the tournaments she
continued.
Young has a busy month of
competition ahead in April attending the
Ocean State Grands in Rhode Island ( the
9th &10th) ,
the Ontario regional
qualifiers in London (17th)
and the Quebec Open in Quebec City (23rd
& 24th).
