KARATE STUDENTS MOVE UP IN RANK
In today’s system of karate belt colours, the ones used at RMA Karate Centres, is based on 10 steps.
The belt colours run from white belt through to black belt. Most Japanese Karate Styles use this or a
similar system.

The colour of a students’ belt indicates their rank and in theory, their ability. Each step forward represents
a further accumulation of skills and knowledge.

At RMA Karate Centres students undergo a lengthy grading where their knowledge and skills are put to
the test. The higher in rank a student is testing for, the longer their grading will be.

RMA recently had 39 students test for their new belt ranks. For the students three to five years old that
meant a 30 minute testing and for an older student grading for an advance belt that meant undergoing a
five hour testing.

All 39 students who tested passed successfully and were presented with their new karate ranks at a
traditional tea ceremony on Friday February 3rd, 2012.

Receiving their new rank were:

White belt with yellow stripe: Benjamin B, Luke L and Johnathan W
White belt with orange stripe: Austin N
Half white and half yellow belt: William B, Mayah S, Gabriella P
Yellow Belt Devan F, Joshua F, Liam C, Gerrard K, Ajete E, Kai E, Sam W, Hunter R and Frances K
