NEXT LEVEL FOR 16 MARTIAL ARTISTS

RMA Karate Centres recently hosted a formal belt ceremony in honour of 16 students who were being presented
their new rank after undergoing an intense testing last month.

The testing which took place in July was an intense evaluation of the students’ knowledge of karate forms, sparring,
self-defence, physical fitness and historical knowledge of the martial arts.

Head instructor Sensei Craig Ridout along with fellow instructors Sensei Linda Young and Sensei Tressa Young
presented the students ranging in age from 3 years to adult with their new belts on Friday August 6th.

Little Dragon students (age 3 to 5 yrs) presented with the new rank of white belt with yellow stripe were William B,
Rory O, Eric M and Zachary S.  Carter N received his white belt with orange stripe and Will K received his half
white and half yellow belt.

Junior students (age 6-12yrs) presented with their new belt ranks were Noah D receiving his half white and half
yellow belt, Sale B receiving her yellow belt, Katie B receiving her yellow belt, Jenna B, Julian Ol receiving his red
belt and Audrey-Lynn O receiving her red belt.

Youth/Adult students (age 13 yrs & up) presented with their new rank were Emily K to yellow belt, Alex H to
yellow belt, Tara R to green belt and Jonathan B to purple belt.

The belt ceremony included all of the graduating students demonstrating their skills on stage with the three RMA
instructors demonstrating unrehearsed self-defense.

“Beyond the obvious self-defense, physical fitness, and self-confidence, the martial arts lifestyle helps develop a
person’s moral values and ethics,” stated instructor Linda Young.

“The ceremony was a great success.  Parents, grandparents, family and friends were impressed with the students
demonstrations including that of the RMA demonstration team.  The audience was excited to be part of this special
moment and the students were thrilled to receive their next level in the martial arts.  Not only are they learning life-
saving skills but they are enjoying their class and the results of their hard work, “ head instructor Ridout stated.
