PARENTS INFORMATION

How do I enroll my child?
Parents may contact the school regarding enrolling their child anytime throughout the year. The parent and intended student have an interview with the Head Instructor or Program Director prior to enrollment in any RMA program. Following the interview the intended student has a trial lesson with one of our instructors. Following the trial class the potential student may join the club on a RMA membership for 3 months or 6 months. The length of membership is up to you!

Can I afford the lessons?
RMA believes every person should have the opportunity to participate in the martial arts. Tuition is based on student attendance giving families the ability to have RMA programs fit into their family budget.

How big is the class?
At RMA we believe in personal attention. All of our programs have a student teacher ratio of 6:1.

What style of martial arts does RMA Karate Centres teach?
We teach Genki-do Kempo Karate for Japanese, Okinawan, Korean and Chinese martial arts. Our styles include Shotokan, Goju-Ryu, Chito-Ryu and more.

How long will it take to master the martial arts?
It takes many years to master the martial arts but important lessons are learned every step of the way.

How long will it take to get my Black Belt?
It takes an average of 4 to 6 years for an adult to attain Black Belt level and at most times a little longer for children. You cannot achieve your Black Belt until you are a minimum of 16 years old although younger students may become Junior Black Belts at an earlier age.

Will my child want to fight if he joins?
Some believe the martial arts to be violent and aggressive because of how it is portrayed on television and in the movies. Martial arts subdues the overly aggressive, hyperactive child and draws out the more passive, introverted child.

Don't you have to be young and strong to begin training?
You can start training at any age. Everyone works at their own level. This is true no matter what belt you attain. Safety is our number one concern and if an exercise or activity hurts or feels uncomfortable, you are not required to do it.

Will my child take what she learns to hurt someone?
Students are taught never to practice on their brother, sister, neighbour, and especially on anyone in the school yard. Martial Arts is for self-defense, not fighting. The very last thing a student should do is enter into a fight. If they can find a way out of a confrontation they should do so.

Can parents stay and watch during class?
Parents are always encouraged to stay and watch.

Are you involved in the comimunity?
RMA Karate Centres believes in community involvement. We participate in charity events in the community throughout the year and welcome our students to be part of our community involvement.
